Which medical do you need?

	EASA (Europe)	FAA (US)
For an airline career	Class 1	First-class
Where	An AeMC or a Class 1-approved AME (initial Class 1 is usually done at an AeMC)	An FAA AME. Fill in MedXPress online first.
Validity (under 40)	12 months	12 months (first-class)

Step 1: Book it

[ ] Find an approved centre/examiner on your national authority's website (EASA country) or faa.gov AME locator (US)
[ ] Ask for an initial Class 1 / first-class exam specifically
[ ] Ask what to bring and how long it takes (EASA initial exams often take half a day)

Step 2: Bring this

[ ] Passport or national ID
[ ] Glasses or contact lenses, plus your current prescription
[ ] A list of medications (name, dose, reason)
[ ] Medical records for anything past or ongoing (specialist letters, surgeries)
[ ] Payment method

Step 3: The days before

[ ] Sleep well 2 nights before
[ ] No alcohol for 48 hours
[ ] Hydrate well
[ ] No hard training the day before (it affects heart rate and blood pressure)
[ ] Light meal before you go
